Privacy, to be or not to be?

The Roe vs. Wade case is about our right of privacy and to be left alone.  Democracy is the sole reason people move to the US.  The opposite of communism, the liberty to do as you wish at your will is what America is founded on.  As long as you do it at your own discretion and behind closed doors.  The internet has changed the definition of obscenity.  Because what was once behind closed doors is everywhere you look.  You can’t get away from “harsh materials” this day in age.  Even the definition of Roe vs. Wade has changed.  Right to privacy once meant that you can do pretty much whatever behind closed doors, now it means we can’t even hide behind closed doors to get away and have our own privacy!  Our e-mails are spammed and our computers are being hacked by the minute. 

 

Personal identity theft is now the current problem.  Publication of our private information is a growing problem.  Bank accounts are accessed easier than ever, and credit card scams are on the rise too.  However the banking system knows this and is usually pretty good about liability issues and won’t make you pay outrageous fees that have been charged to your account.

Cyberporn and society reflection

This class is not what I signed up for.  However I found it to be more than I ever expected.  I have never opened my eyes to the porn industry until now, although porn has been in my life for over11 years.  Never have I paid attention to how closely technology and pornography are interrelated.  The future of certain technologies revolves around the porn industry.  You would have never convinced me of that before this class that is for sure.

 

Another eye opener was the idea of gay-for-pay.  Never has it crossed my mind, but I understand why men in this business are turning towards the idea.  How else can they keep up with the women and their incomes?  Although a little disturbing to hear that these "non gay" men are going home to their families at night.  Transmitting a disease to a wife or another family member is unacceptable.  That is if the man is even telling his wife that he is resorting to this type of film for income or pure pleasure for that matter.

 

Lastly, I am glad to see topics covered such as obscenity laws and indecency laws as well.  Not many people, including myself sometimes, know where to cross the line with all the regulations on posting/sharing files containing explicit materials.  The thin grey line is there but seeing it is that hard part.

Steal, why not the goverment does.

What is too vague? What is legal? I know the difference.  Its how the government makes its money is the answer.  The government is a business and the major point in business is to make money right?  Our culture depends on it, as well as we as Americans expect nothing less.  Why not a yes or no answer to make the constitution a little more black and white to the American people?  Because I don’t know where I stand sometimes…I feel like I’m stuck in a philosophy course and my head is spinning out of control.  God forbid you move to another state, it’s like learning English again!  Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo are examples of what I am talking about.  These are two very sick people that went on a rampage even raping her own sister then murdering her.  The European council of cyber porn states you can either elect to follow the whole article 9, or just parts of it.

 

As for file sharing, it is imperative a developing nation to allow this at most levels.  I see no difference between file sharing and copying your friend a mix tape for a car ride.  As long as a profit is not made from the listener, no laws are violated.  Besides the fact that all of these careers including sports players, actors, and rappers especially are exponentially overpaid.  I am a strong believer that cops, firemen, and doctors should be making the millions.  These athletes and actors are paid for their performance and their entertainment value only.  Americans would rather pay for entertainment, than pay for safety of their family and to the others who risk their lives for you such as firemen.

While surfing the other day, I found a great blog site by the name of pornstardigest.com.  This blog tracks and reviews the latest and greatest sites dedicated to porn stars.  We’re not talking cameo or ensemble cast site.  We’re talking about sites that focus specifically on a particular adult entertainment personality.  Not to mention links to many other great sites.

Mr. Lucas, can you tell me what got you started in the business and how much start up costs were that you had to initially invest?  How "professional looking" does a movie have to be to become a money maker?  Can an independent film maker bring-in sizable revenues?  Have you ever come into contact with a HIV infected person that has transmitted to one of your actors?

Internet porn has become a factor in most divorces

Pamela Paul from OnPoint has the right idea when she says porn is everywhere and people are getting swallowed up in it.  Little kids, she says, are initially getting exposed to hardcore porn and are learning from this at a young age.  It is hard to take back these initial images and shoe children what sex and relationships are about.  In turn this makes the children start to have intercourse at earlier ages.  This indefinitely will lead to younger mothers and more abortions!

 

The internet is perfect delivery system for an addictive material.   Visual stimulation, viewed when aroused, shown withdraw and denial symptoms may occur.  But what is an addiction if everyone has been loving sex since the beginning of time.  But is it the commercial version that is affecting our society, or the nature of man?  Only the strong survive and humans have been doing alright and have come along way.  Survival of the fittest or however you want to interpret that sex is an addiction is scary, or normal to you?

 

Divorce courts have reported that more often than not, internet porn has become a factor in most divorces.  That’s scary because about 53% of marriages end in divorce.

Out of sight and out of mind they say

“Shit piss fuck cunt cocksucker motherfucker tits…”I probably heard all seven of these words by the time I was about 12.  With “cunt” being the last one learned in the locker room.  I think shit and piss should not be banned however just regulated more instead.  Whatever happened to “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me!?  Kid shows I understand need to be censored, but I am specifically speaking of shows such as Nip/Tuck, Sopranos, Entourage.  The shows directed towards young adults and adults need not to be censored, just not taken literally.  Remember these people are acting and it is for entertainment value; nothing more, nothing less.  So next time you hear a bad word, you don’t have to use it.  Let it go in one ear and out the other.

 

“Out of sight, out of mind” brings me to the topic of voyeurism in Tampa, Florida.  What the Voyeur Dorm did correctly was to act as if no indecency was going inside the house.  No drunken guys stumbling outside the house, and no prostitutes hanging-out outside of the house smoking cigarettes all night.  If you can operate a business in a professional manner within certain distances from schools, what is the problem?  This blog has an answer that is quite blatantly open…using .xxx instead of .com for all pornographic websites I thought that that was an excellent idea, why aren’t they doing this already?  There are ways to do this, I mean we got a man on the moon and have landed on mars. A rating system for websites is not a bad idea either.  The only way to do it now I believe is put the computer in the kitchen or family room where the adults are the majority of the time at home.   

Rights=Responcibility

I would like to start off with stating that sex education is needed with an ever-growing society that comes into so much contact with pornography.  Educating the rich and the poor, including the upper class males.  The Johnson commission had the right idea, but fell short with the social standards of pornography and erotica at the time.  It would be “un-American” to restrict our technology uses, even if that includes distribution and production of such things as the pornography industry.  We need to make the community aware of how predominate this industry is and has always been.

 

I am not saying this should be an out-in-the-open kind of industry, but just making a point that it is an industry that has never declined even through the depression.  I agree with certain zoning laws and broadcasting restrictions.  For example the Erznoznik vs. Jacksonville case, which stated that at drive-in movies no such movies having nudity in them be played because of innocent kids driving by could see the images.  Pornography is not for everyone, such as children and minors, or elders for that matter.  It should never be an in your face advertisement scheme or industry either.  American freedoms come with American responsibilities.  How does the Netherlands conduct itself with so much control over pornography and even drugs?  Why can’t Americans behave this way also?  I believe most of us can, it is the select few that ruin it for others; as we all have heard since the first grade.  America is slowing itself down by not letting the general public have control and use of our personal freedoms and personal choices.

Obscenity or us?

The government can not restrict the 1^st amendment, but it can regulate it.  Because if the government won’t regulate, we won’t either.  People as a society need to regulate themselves.  Americans always seem to amaze me.  We are supposed to be on-top of the world in many aspects, but we act like a bunch of jerks most of the time.  I am planning a trip abroad this summer and all I can seem to think about is how much foreigners dislike Americans.  We think our $#*! don’t stink, and we are constantly rushing life and not appreciating life and family.  What I am getting at here is that in many ways overseas countries self govern themselves in ways that Americans will never understand.  Why are prostitution and drugs like marijuana and other hallucinogens available and legal in the Netherlands?  I can tell you why, SELF Governance!  They know what is right from wrong…why don’t Americans?  

 

Point is that we have so much information at our fingertips and people are looking to find the bad in it, when we should be only looking to further this world and ourselves with it.  We all have freedoms and along with freedoms come choices and responsibility.  Hugo Black and others who are free speech absolutists’ are ok, and needed in society.  Needed to open up eyes and not to be taken 100% literal.  Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.  Anyone remember that one?  Self control is where the problem is here.  Maybe everything should be put aside for the upper class because they know how to act properly. How do you blame people when there are such fuzzy definitions about obscenity?  Of course people want to press the envelope as much as possible.  How about we take a step back and make no envelope to push?  That way whenever someone does stray from “the norm”, no matter what their income level is or what their background is will any strings be pulled for that person.  They will take responsibility for own actions without insanity pleadings.  An eye for an eye, or a hand cut off for stealing sounds like a good approach to me.
